After starting its way to the pre-Olympic tournament yesterday (Wednesday) with a crushing victory over Angola, the Slovenian basketball team tonight secured first place at home as they defeated Poland 77: 112 in Kaunas. Luka Doncic again excelled and led the European champions to the semi-finals, where the Slovenians avoided a meeting with host Lithuania, with whom they are expected to face head-to-head in a match that will decide which of the two will qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo next month.
Doncic recorded a double-double of 18 points and 10 assists, scoring four shots for three of eight attempts and also dropping 6 rebounds in less than 22 minutes on the floor. Kalman Perfleic added 17 points for Slovenia, while on the other side Mataus Ponitka finished with 16 to win for Poland, who rose from second place despite the defeat they suffered.
In a game played in Canada, two other teams played, when the local team defeated China 79: 109 in the morning and put together a second victory in the tournament, which guaranteed it first place. Andrew Wiggins scored 20 points for the Canadians, RJ Barrett contributed 16. At the same time, Turkey traveled to 70:87 over the Czech Republic, the same Israeli coach Nano Ginzburg.
