The Serbian national basketball team advanced to the finals of the Olympic qualifying tournament in Belgrade, as they beat Puerto Rico 102: 84 (28:26, 23:14, 28:28, 23:16) in the semifinals today.

Serbia will fight for the placement at the Games in Tokyo with Italy, which celebrated earlier today against the Dominican Republic.

The Serbian team was led to victory in the “Aleksandar Nikolić” hall by Vasilije Micić with 21 points and eight assists, Nemanja Bjelica added 18 points and seven rebounds, while Danilo Andjušić and Filip Petrušev scored 15 points each.

Petrushev also recorded eight rebounds, while captain Milos Teodosic finished the match with 11 points and ten successful passes.

On the other hand, the most efficient was Pinheiro with 23 points.

Puerto Rico started the game better, took the lead with 17:11, but Serbia equalized very quickly, only to go to the first break with a two-point advantage (28:26) with Bjelica’s triple with the sound of a siren.

After three tied threes by Micic, Marjanovic and Teodosic, Serbia first took the lead in the second quarter 41:33, and with the points of Petrushev and Avramovic from the counterattack, they reached the first double-digit advantage (47:37).

Igor Kokoškov’s team went on a big break with a plus 11, and they had the same advantage after the third period (79:68).

The final outcome of the match could have been foreseen four minutes before the end, after Clavel’s unsportsmanlike personal error, and then the technical to the Puerto Rican coach (89:77). After that, the basketball players of Serbia routinely brought the game to an end.

The finals of Serbia Italy will be played tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.
