Messi runs into Courtois and lengthens his drought against Real Madrid

Argentine striker Leo Messi was unable to break his strange goalscoring drought against Real Madrid on Tuesday, a team he tormented for many years, but against whom he has not been able to see the door since May 2018.

The one from Rosario had scored a total of 26 goals against the madridistas since his spectacular scoring debut in a Clasico in 2007 with a triplet, until that final campaign four years ago, but they seem to have found the formula to minimize their impact and they also achieved it despite his move to Paris Saint-Germain, although much of it had to do with Thibaut Courtois.

The Belgian goalkeeper showed his current state of form and denied the ’30 of the Parisian team this Tuesday in the first leg of the round of 16 of the Champions League that put an end to his losing streak. Messi, normally an efficient penalty taker, was unable to get past the goalkeeper’s great lunge and again failed to score for the eighth game against Real Madrid.

After scoring his twenty-sixth goal in the 2-2 El Clasico of the 2017-2018 LaLiga Santaner campaign, Messi’s goal was too small against the 13-time European champion. He was not involved due to injury in the great rout months later by 5-1 at the Camp Nou, and did not score in the February 2019 semifinals of the Copa del Rey (1-1 and 0-3), although in the first leg He barely played half an hour. In the second Classic, he was also unable to score at the Bernabéu despite the 0-1 victory and put in a great game.

In the following season, the ’10’ Blaugrana could not score either and in the Clasico at the Camp Nou there was a goalless draw, while in the Real Madrid fief his team could not score a goal either and fell 2-0. In 2020-2021, the last as a FC Barcelona player, he did not stand out in the defeats of the Camp Nou (1-3) or Alfredo Di Stéfano (2-1) to close a bad streak in which he was not able to attend either and that he will try to break at the Santiago Bernabéu on March 9.
