Ukrainian bobsled driver hands in positive doping test at the Olympics

Another Ukrainian has been smoked in the doping trap at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

On Thursday, the International Testing Agency (ITA) reports, according to the news agency AFP, that bobsledder Lidiia Hunko, who competed in the women’s energy bob, has been tested positive at the games.

The test was taken on Monday, when Hunko was in action and finished last among the 20 participants. The anabolic steroid chlorodehydromethyl-testosterone was found in her sample, which has led to a temporary suspension.

Hunko is the second Ukrainian to have passed a positive doping test during the Olympics. On Wednesday, cross-country skier Valentyna Kaminska did the same. Kaminska tested positive for three illegal drugs.

In total, three athletes have been arrested for doping during the Games. Iranian skier Hossein Saveh-Shemshaki has also passed a positive doping test. It came out last week.

In addition, the case of the Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva has been pending. She passed a positive doping test at home in Russia in December, but it has only emerged during the Winter Olympics.

She was first suspended by Russia’s anti-doping agency (Rusada), which, however, quickly withdrew it again. Next, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Skating Union (ISU) and the International Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed the lifting of Valieva’s suspension to the International Sports Court (CAS).

On Monday, CAS allowed the Russian to continue participating in the Olympics, where she finished fourth on Thursday afternoon Danish time.
