Diego Aguirre speaks for the first time after being fired by Santos

Dismissed on the advice of the club’s Management Committee – president Andrés Rueda was against his departure -, the coach did not complain. On the contrary, he used social media to highlight Santos’ greatness and to thank him for the opportunity he received.

“It was an honor to have represented the Santos shield, such a great and historic institution in World football. For many, the most important club of all. A shame that it didn’t go the way we would have liked,” wrote Aguirre on his Instagram.

“I thank the group of athletes and the institution for the opportunity, I regret not having had the opportunity to develop the work. It was possible for us to do more, but that is something that remains in the past”, he lamented. “May Santos regain its greatness and occupy the position it deserves and that the world of football recognizes. Again, thank you very much.”
