Croatian tennis player Marin Čilić he lost at the start of the ATP tennis tournament in Buenos Aires to a Serbian tennis player Lasla Đerea at 6-4, 3-6, 0-6.

One of the best Croatian tennis players of all time is still looking for the right form after a long recovery from a knee injury, and against Đere he recorded his fourth defeat this year. Čilić entered the match well, winning the first set, but Đere, who is currently ranked 35th in the ATP rankings, turned the score around in the next two sets.

In the first set, the tenth game turned out to be crucial. Until then, both tennis players held their serves without break balls. In the tenth game, Čilić had the opportunity to turn around by using the third break point for 6-4 and the lead in the sets.

In the second set, Đere played much better, while Čilić slowly faltered. With two services taken away, Đere won the second set 6-3 in 50 minutes. In the decisive third set, Čilić’s game completely fell apart and the seventh seed of the tournament won the set 6-0 with three breaks.

It was their third meeting and Đera’s first victory, after Marin won in 2019 in the round of 16 in Madrid with 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, and in 2022 in the quarter-finals in Adelaide with 6-3 , 6-2.

Čilić received an invitation to the tournament in Buenos Aires, and interestingly, this is only his second South American tournament on earth. He has played only once so far, in 2018 in Rio de Janeiro when he passed one round.

In the 2nd round, the Serbian tennis player is expected to win the match between the Italian Andrea Vavassori and the Brazilian Thiago Seyboth Wild.
