Miguel Van Damme, goalkeeper of the Círculo de Brujas, dies of leukemia

The goalkeeper of the Círculo de Brujas Miguel Van Damme has died this Tuesday of leukemia at the age of 28, after his “long and unequal battle” against cancer, according to the club itself in a statement.

“It is with great sadness that we report that our friend and teammate Miguel Van Damme has waged his long and uneven battle with leukemia. Words are not enough to describe how we feel, even though we knew things had not been going well for time. Today is an extremely difficult day in the almost 123-year history of the Bruges Circle,” the statement said.

The Belgian goalkeeper was diagnosed with leukemia in mid-2016 and the club wanted to highlight the athlete’s “perseverance and strength” during this time. “Our thoughts go to his wife Kyana, his daughter Camille, Miguel’s parents, his sister Francesca, but also to his friends and family,” said the Circle of Witches.

“You are an example of positivism, persistence and fighting spirit. A source of inspiration for all who fight. Forever in our green-black hearts,” the statement concluded.

Real Madrid offered its condolences to the entire family of the Círculo de Brujas. “The club, its president and its Board of Directors deeply regret the death of Miguel Van Damme, player of the Círculo de Brujas,” the white statement collected.

“Real Madrid wants to express its condolences and its love and affection to all his family and loved ones, his club and his teammates. Miguel Van Damme has passed away at the age of 28. Rest in peace,” the Madrid club concluded.
