Swiss tennis player Roger Federer will have to undergo new knee surgery, he announced today on his Instagram account.
This will be Federer’s third operation on the same knee, and he will have a break of several months, and maybe the end of his career. The winner of the 20th Grand Slam title already had two kicks on his knee last year, but obviously the problem has not been solved.
“I talked to the doctors and we agreed that the operation was necessary. It will be difficult for me, but I know this is the right thing to do. The operation represents little hope that I can return to the field and in my old form.” Federer said.
The Swiss returned to the field in March 2021 in Doha after a long break. He then played four more tournaments, including Roland Garros and Wimbledon. At Wimbledon, he further aggravated the injury, so in the meantime he missed the Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Rogers Cup and Cincinnati.
Federer’s last match was in the Wimbledon quarterfinals, where he was defeated by Hubert Hurkac.
