The Bidaideak Bilbao BSR, current champion of the Wheelchair Basketball Honor Division, confirmed this Wednesday that it has started the procedures to achieve the expatriation of the Afghan player Nilofar Bayat and welcome her into his team.
“The Bidaideak Bilbao BSR opens its doors to the Afghan player Nilofar Bayat so that she can reside in Bilbao and play for her team from next season,” the Bilbao team said in a statement.
Bayat, hit in her childhood by a Taliban missile that injured her spine, is the captain of her country’s chair basketball team and has launched a call for help to be able to leave Afghanistan due to “fear” of the situation there after the Taliban seized power.
“The president of the club has already conveyed to the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation and to the Spanish Federation his full willingness to incorporate the captain of the Afghan team of this sport, who has issued an SOS to be able to leave his country “, remarked the Bidaideak.
The Bilbao club reported that this Wednesday “it will begin the procedures to send Bayat its incorporation proposal and, once accepted by it, undertake its expatriation.”
