The moment of truth of the Champions League qualifiers is approaching its climax. Tonight (Wednesday) the playoff stage kicks off, at the end of which we will know which teams will advance to the home stage of the main stage of European football. Eran Zehavi and PSV Eindhoven will be hosted at the Light Stadium in Lisbon and hope to get an advance at the expense of the Portuguese ahead of the rematch in the Netherlands next week.
In the Europa League qualifiers Celtic will host, with Liel working in the squad the Dutch Alkmaar in the first of two games. Nir Bitton will start the game on the bench of the Scots.
Benfica – PSV Eindhoven
A little over 33 years ago they met in the European Champions Cup final and then the Dutch won the title thanks to a penalty shootout victory. Tonight (Wednesday, 22:00) Benfica and PSV Eindhoven will play against each other on the ticket to the home stage of the Champions League. PSV won all six official games of the season and on Saturday defeated the Hercules 0: 2 in the first round of the league.
Zehavi, who started excellently in the Champions League qualifiers with a hat-trick and a brace against Glatsray at home, has not found the net since and will now try to break the “drought” of five games without a goal. The Israeli, as mentioned, was rested in the last game and came off the bench for 31 minutes, similar to Mario Getza and Cody Gakpo who also came in as substitutes. That is why Roger Schmidt’s attack should arrive fresh for a meeting with Benfica. The Dutch Supercup holder will be missing the injured Maximiliano Romero, Maxim Lang and Richard Ladsma, but Zahavi was placed in the starting lineup.
On the other hand, the Portuguese strikers will be missing two strikers Darwin Nunez and Harris Sprowitz, but those who will play are Roman Yarmchuk and Luka Waldschmidt: Was responsible for the second gate.
Celtic – Alkmaar
Abda, who missed the Scottish runner-up’s last two games due to a minor injury, has returned to full fitness and is set to be included in the Ante Postcoglo squad, alongside Odson Edouard and Kyogo Puruhashi at the front. Bitton, who has only partnered for a total of six minutes in the last three games, is expected to start on the bench. Those who will be absent from Celtic are the injured Ryan Christie, Chris Julien, Mikey Johnson and Kramoko Dembele.
Malmo – Ludogorets
Young Boys – France
