“He's the runner we've been waiting for”

“Tiberi is the man that Italian cycling was waiting for. He’s a stage race rider, because he’s complete: he goes fast uphill and he’s also strong in the time trial. Furthermore, he showed personality, he was the only one who tried to annoy a certain Tadej Pogacar”. Thus to Adnkronos Davide Cassani, former coach of the Italian national cycling team, regarding the excellent Giro d’Italia, run so far by the 22-year-old Ciociaro Antonio Tiberi, “At the moment he is fifth in the standings, his goal is the white jersey of the best youngster but he could easily think of getting on the podium. He’s there and he can play for it until the end”, adds Cassani.

“Pogacar is the new Merckx, he will win the Giro hands down”

As for Pogacar, “let’s tell the truth, barring unforeseen circumstances he will win the Giro hands down – he states -. At the moment he is in an excellent condition and we can’t see anyone who can put him in difficulty. We are facing an absolute phenomenon”.

I think he can easily aim for the Giro-Tour combination, it’s certainly within his range”, adds Cassani who finds many similarities with the ‘cannibal’ Eddy Merckx. “In his way of running he is very reminiscent of him, he leaves nothing on the road. He is strong both in one-day races and in stage races, he is strong in time trials and uphill. He is Merckx’s worthy heir.”
