Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal announced today that he decided to end the season due to a foot problem that has been bothering him for a year.

“Hello everyone, I wanted to inform you that unfortunately I have to finish the 2021 season,” Nadal wrote on his Twitter account.

“Honestly, I’ve been struggling for a year more than I should with my foot and I need time — to find a solution to this problem or at least improve it so I can play in the next few years,” he added.

Nadal stated that, after talking to his team and family, he made the decision to dedicate himself to recovery.

“During these year, I missed things that are very important to me, like Wimbledon, the Olympic Games — now the US Open,” said the Spaniard.

Nadal reminded that this is an injury he has been suffering from since 2005, but he also pointed out that he is motivated and ready to do everything in order to return to the best possible form as soon as possible.

“Thank you in advance for your support and understanding, which are very important and even more important in difficult times like these. I promise I will do my best to continue to enjoy tennis for some time to come,” Nadal concluded.
