The farewell of the Serbian Paralympians to the upcoming Games in Tokyo was held today in Belgrade.
The event was organized in the athletic tunnel at the “Rajko Mitic” stadium.
The representative of the European Union delegation, Paul-Henri Presse, who is a partner of the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, said that he was very proud of that cooperation.
“It is a great pleasure to be with you today, just a few hours before your departure for Tokyo, where you will represent Serbia at the Paralympic Games. I am very proud that the European Union is a partner of the committee. The European Union covers the travel costs of all 20 Serbian athletes coaches and equipment, ”he added.
According to him, the goal of the European Union is to support inclusion in all spheres of society, and people with disabilities are among the most vulnerable groups, both in Serbia and in the EU.
The President of the Paralympic Committee of Serbia, Zoran Mićović, pointed out that the goal of the Committee is not only excellent results of athletes, but also the inclusion of marginalized groups.
“Our goal is not only to achieve great results, but also the inclusion of that part of the population, which has been excluded from society so far,” said Mićović.
Assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Darko Udovicic assessed that it was “an extraordinary event, that they are extraordinary people, and the EU delegation made an extraordinary step forward in helping the Paralympic Committee.”
Nemanja Matijašević, who will be the youngest Serbian athlete at the Paralympic Games, added that the athletes “will do their best to win more medals than at the Rio Games in 2016.”
He will compete in the long jump discipline, and in addition to athletics, Serbian competitors will also compete in archery, table tennis, cycling and taekwondo.
The motto of the Paralympic team’s video campaign is called “And what is your superpower?”.
The Paralympic Games are being held in Tokyo from August 24 to September 5.
