Denmark’s best female tennis player has not been in a match since she had to retire during the Miami Open in March due to illness.
Since then, Clara Tauson has struggled with her health, which also meant she signed up for the WTA 250 tournament in Istanbul, which is being played this week. But now there is good news.
The 19-year-old Danish tennis ace is in clear improvement and is therefore also going to be ready for the big WTA tournament Madrid Open next week.
This is what Clara Tauson’s father, Søren Tauson, tells Ekstra Bladet.
– She is back on the training field and in a good mood. Madrid does not start until Thursday next week, so there are quite a few days left, and it provides a good opportunity to get ready for battle, he writes in a text message.

Thus, the Madrid Open looks to be the Dane’s first tournament this year on gravel. Here she will test the gravel form before the French Open begins on 22 May.
After Madrid, the WTA tournament in Rome also awaits, before this year’s second Grand Slam tournament.
Clara Tauson is the second youngest player in the top 50 on the women’s world rankings. Her best result so far at a Grand Slam took place earlier this year when she reached the third round of the Australian Open.
In both 2020 and 2021, she reached the second round of the French Open, played in Paris.
Clara Tauson is currently number 42 on the world rankings.
