Werder Bremen: Back after injury! Ömer Toprak defense boss again

After Werder captain Ömer Toprak (32) trained with the reserves on Saturday after the game against Holstein Kiel (2:3), he got involved in real team training for the first time since his calf injury on Tuesday.

Toprak completed the training start of the new week without any noticeable problems. And even more: The defender immediately presented himself as the leader again – held the shop together in the final game and gave his colleagues loud instructions.

Toprak defense boss again

Toprak is currently sorely missed on the Werder defense. The same applies to veteran Christian Groß (33) and central defender Milos Veljkovic (26). The three main defensive pillars were missing recently.

Coach Ole Werner: “I have the hope and also the planning that they will be available to us in Aue.”

After his corona infection on Tuesday, Groß also trained for the first time in real team training. Veljkovic (torn muscle fiber) was still working individually – but is supposed to train with his colleagues on Wednesday.

A return of the three professionals would be important! Bremen has not been stable in defense in recent weeks. In the last 13 games, the Werner team only kept a clean sheet once. Not enough for a promotion candidate!
