The Tiktok social network seeks to promote the generation of alternative text with the help of artificial intelligence so that users with visual disabilities can access the content of the images more easily.
Tiktok has announced new accessibility tools with which it pretends that the experience in the social network “is positive for all, including people with visual, auditory, motor and cognitive disabilities.”
One of them is the alternative text, a description of what is seen in the image that screen readers can read aloud. Recently, the tool for content creators would include it manually, before or after the publication.
Now the company seeks to promote this tool with artificial intelligence, to generate the description of the image and currently has in tests, as reported in its official blog.
It is also now possible to increase color contrast, an adjustment “increases the foreground color of the text, icons and elements of the user interface” to facilitate the use of the platform. And improves the readability when respecting the bold configuration of the mobile device.
These novelties are directed to users visual disabilities, and are added to those already offered by the social network, such as the subtitles generated automatically for videos, the dark mode, the conversion of text to voice and the animation of miniatures.
