Universal reveals (by mistake) the title of the new Super Mario film

Universal Pictures seems to have involuntarily confirmed the title of the next film chapter dedicated to Mario: Super Mario World. The information emerged within a press release relating to the future programming of the Nbuniversal content, and then quickly removed, suggesting an early unintentional publication. The title appeared in a list of outgoing films scheduled for streaming on the Peacock platform, exclusively after the passage in cinemas. Together with Super Mario World, new projects related to Shrek and Minions franchises were initially mentioned, then also removed from the announced announcement a few hours later.

The choice of the title appears consistent with what has been suggested in the final of the first film The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), in which a post-Credit scene anticipated the introduction of Yoshi, the iconic green dinosaur appeared for the first time in the Super Mario World video game, launched in 1990 for Super Nintendo (SNES). The title was one of the major successes of the console, with over 20 million copies sold globally. The sequel to the animated film was officially announced by Nintendo and Illumination in March 2024, with release scheduled for April 3, 2026 Considering the enormous commercial success of the original film, which passed the billion dollars at the world box office, the continuation of the franchise did not surprise the observers of the sector. Nintendo intensified its commitment in the field of cinematographic entertainment. Among the projects currently in development there is also a live-action adaptation of the saga of The Legend of Zelda, with a debut scheduled for March 2027.
