Health experts warn that the sedentary lifestyle of the modern era may change the appearance of man in the coming decades and create a generation that suffers from physical deformities and serious health problems, if the trend of excessive comfort and immobility continues. To illustrate the alarming future picture, a team from the WeWard app created an artificial intelligence model called “Sam”, which shows what the average person will look like in 2050 if they continue a sedentary lifestyle based on prolonged sitting in front of screens, eating fast food and lack of physical activity – what is known as “digital laziness”, according to a report by the British Daily Mail newspaper.
Doctors have been warning for years that prolonged sitting and lack of physical activity slow down the metabolism and increase fat accumulation, especially in the abdominal area, which increases the risk of obesity, diabetes and heart disease. They point out that constant bending in front of screens leads to muscle weakness and chronic pain in the neck and back, while lack of movement causes joint stiffness, weakness of flexibility and an increase in the chances of osteoarthritis.
According to public health experts, the world is moving towards an “epidemic of laziness”, when a person can eat, work and communicate from one place without the need to move, and what the World Health Organization defines as one of the biggest health challenges of the 21st century. At the end of the report, the WeWard organization expressed the hope that people will rethink their daily habits, and emphasized that movement is not a luxury but a biological necessity that preserves the youth of the body and mind.
