Microsoft Edge incorporates sensors to detect full-page scams in real time and block them faster

Microsoft Edge browser It has incorporated sensors that allow it to detect potential full-page scams and block them in real time for all users.

Microsoft offers protection in its browser that blocks scams known as ‘scareware’, that seek to scare users with a fake full screen notice about a system error, a crime allegation or a virus alert, inter alia.

This scareware blocker uses a local machine vision model which is available by default on most Windows and Mac computers with a configuration of at least 2GB of RAM and a 4-core processor.

According to the company, it “protects users from scams before traditional threat intelligence systems detect them“. It also allows users to report scam attempts of this type that they encounter, which will help Microsoft Defender SmartScreen block it for other users around the world.

Microsoft will reinforce this blocker with sensors, with the aim of speeding up action against rapidly spreading scams. Starting with version Edge 142, the sensor “will notify SmartScreen of the possible scam immediatelywithout sharing screenshots or any other additional data to what SmartScreen already receives,” the company explains on its official blog.

The sensor function will be activated for all users who have the SmartScreen function enabled, but Microsoft indicates that even with it disabled, The ‘scareware’ block will continue to work.
