The famous G1 robot from Unitree company awkwardly held the pan, spilled food on the kitchen floor and slipped.
Last weekend, account gospel posted on X a short video recording the scene of G1 wearing a maid outfit trying to cook. However, the attempt turned into a “disaster” when G1 dropped the pan and all the food on the floor. When trying to move on, it kept slipping, eventually falling over. The clip attracted 1.9 million views and more than 800 comments after more than 3 days.

Below, the account gospel continued to share another clip showing G1 forcefully entering the room, breaking the glass door. But then, it seemed the robot couldn’t control its speed, crashing into the camera stand and the wall. These clips are all from the video “What happens if you mistreat a robot?” by YouTuber Cody Detwiler.
A similar incident occurred in March, when user Zhang Genyuan assigned G1 a cooking task. Robots struggle with simple tasks like cracking eggs and pouring milk. Its efforts to move house also did not go smoothly, often leading to collisions and breakdowns.
The G1 was primarily designed for industrial and research purposes, but Unitree Robotics has diversified its capabilities, expanding into household work. The cases of Cody Detwiler and Zhang Genyuan show that G1 is not ready for tasks requiring high precision. Humanoid robots are making impressive strides, but they still don’t really work well with humans.
G1 is 1.32 m tall and weighs 35 kg, with 23 degrees of freedom. The robot face integrates an advanced perception and communication system, including a 3D LiDAR sensor and RealSense depth camera, to enhance spatial awareness. Additionally, the robot is equipped with a noise-canceling microphone to recognize voice commands and 5-watt stereo speakers to respond with clear, natural sounds.
