Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg Announced tonight (Thursday) the company’s new name: Meta, Unveiled during the speech he delivered during the Facebook Connect event for 2021 – Facebook’s largest conference in the worlds of virtual reality, in which the company presented a glimpse of how experiences in Metaverse will feel in the next decade.
Zuckerberg introduced the new brand under which the company’s applications and technologies will be accessible. According to him, Meta’s goal will be to bring to life the Metaverse vision and help people connect, find communities and grow businesses. He further explained that the Metaverse will allow people to have rich experiences with others, even when they are not in the same place – and to do together things that could not be done in the real world.
“Facebook is a company that focuses on connecting people. It was born in a certain place and time – on a college campus, on the Internet, because that’s what we could build at the time, but in 2021, our products still revolve around apps, not people,” Zuckerberg noted. “We believe Metaverse is the natural heir of the Internet – it will provide richer social experiences and allow us all to feel present side by side, from anywhere in the world. If we all work together, we can bring Metaverse to a billion people in the next decade, allow the market to grow And create exciting job opportunities for millions of creators and developers, “he added.
He went on to say: “We have built a series of innovative and groundbreaking developments that have created new ways for people to be together,” Zuckerberg said. “Considering privacy and safety from the beginning. Today we are taking a significant step beyond the limits of screens, distance and physics – and paving the way for a future where everyone can be present side by side, from anywhere in the world. I am proud of what we have built so far, and excited about the future.”
In addition to the name change, the company is expected to announce innovative AR / VR developments that will be integrated into Matevers programs and shape the future of the Internet and virtual experiences.
As you may recall, last week it was reported that Facebook is expected to change its name next week, as part of a rebranding. The change marks the company’s intention to brand itself as more of a social network, amid recent criticism it has received following the revelation of a former company executive who made harsh allegations against it, as well as the global glitch that occurred earlier this month.
The blue company logo, will probably be considered as part of a variety of products that will be included under one parent company, as well as Instagram WhatsApp and more. It was further reported in The Verge that the new company name was kept secret, to the point that it was kept from parts of the senior echelon of the company.
