DreamWorks Animation will use the high-performance ThinkStation and ThinkPad P series workstations to accelerate challenging workloads
Lenovo announces that DreamWorks Animation has selected Lenovo as its partner in the field of workstations that will provide it with the power and high performance required to breathe life into animated films. This collaboration in the field of edge computing further strengthens the partnership between the companies, and is in addition to a long-standing agreement between the two in the field of data center. As part of the agreement, which was signed for a number of years, DreamWorks will deploy Lenovo’s workstations, including the ThinkStation P620 and ThinkStation P920 stations in the various content and character development departments, including the highly anticipated film The Bad Guys.
The expansion comes as a result of the deployment of a new Lenovo computing infrastructure that aims to turn DreamWorks’ data center into a high-performance, operational-flexible activity center that offers sustainable operation in all aspects of DreamWorks content creation.
At a time when consumer demand for high-end animated content was at its peak, DreamWorks Animation turned to Lenovo’s smart device group to find the best computing solutions for them to help it meet the growing challenges, complex workflows and fast production times. Designed for the highest level of productivity, Lenovo’s workstations are designed to deliver power, performance and reliability that enable artists to breathe life into their creative ideas.
“At DreamWorks, the ability to run the workflows quickly of our creative thinking process is critical to capturing those memorable experiences developed by our animators and creative professionals. Workstations need to meet the demands of our artists’ relentless imagination, and hardware should be a factor in harnessing performance. And speed to meet those challenges, “said Bill Balio, CTO at DreamWorks. “We had the opportunity to test Lenovo’s ThinkStation P620 workstation and realized it would be a game changer for workflows. Built on AMD’s Ryzen Threadripper PRO architecture, it drives new and improved performance for multi-process application environments that our team can take full advantage of.” .
From building 3D models, through a variety of processes and simulations to animation and creating highly photo-realistic graphics processing, professionals, artists and DreamWorks Animation engineers will be able to leverage high-performance computing capabilities. Relying on the flexibility offered by Lenovo workstations, the DreamWorks team allows them to focus on their creative aspirations knowing that they are equipped with the world-class technology needed to deliver these complex workflows – now and for years to come. Beyond the Lenovo ThinkStation P620, DreamWorks Animation You can also take advantage of Lenovo’s most advanced workstation with a dual processor, the ThinkStation P920, a computer based on the latest generation of Intel Xeon processors. These stations will deliver the extreme performance that will help DreamWorks accelerate their most challenging workflows in the production studio environment.
“We are excited to expand our partnership with DreamWorks Animation and equip it with workstations that are helping to accelerate the increasingly demanding workflows,” said Rob Herman, vice president of the Workstation and Artificial Intelligence Unit for Lenovo Business Clients. “Our collaboration at the Workstation further demonstrates Lenovo’s ability to holistically support our customers with the most advanced technology solutions available, enabling them to innovate faster and change their particular industries.”
