About 1.1 million people, about 20% of the country’s Internet surfers, have been harmed by cybercrime. This was reported yesterday by the Central Bureau of Statistics, which published data on privacy, security and cyber and cybercrime.

The segmentation shows that about 20% were harmed by bank fraud or credit card theft. The data also shows that about 20% of Internet users have detected a virus or malware that has damaged information or software on their computer or mobile phone. About 49% of Internet users said they would contact the police if they fell victim to cybercrime. An additional 8.3% said they would refer to the relevant website and about 18% indicated that they would not report at all.

The social survey also shows that about 38% of parents of children under the age of 18 upload pictures of their children online – about 45% of women and about 32% of men.
About 66% of parents of children under the age of 18 (about 1.5 million people) reported that their children use the Internet. About 15% of them answered that they did not know what their children were doing online, about 37% installed safety systems on the devices used by the children and about 56% restricted the children’s access and use of the network.

About 83% of those aged 20 and over in the Israeli population believe that laws should be enacted to protect privacy online – about 81% of men and about 85% of women, about 89% of those with an academic certificate, compared to about 80% of non-academically educated people. Of the Internet users, who make up about 90% of the population, about 86% support legislation, compared with about 51% of those who do not use the Internet.

About 62% are worried that their personal information is not secure on the Internet, while among those aged 20-44 their rate is higher compared to those aged 65 and over – 67% compared to 46% respectively. Among Internet users, about 56% have changed their password in the last 12 months – about 63% of young people aged 20-44 and about 36% of those aged 65 and over.

The social survey also shows that about 22% delete their Internet surfing history – about 26% of men and about 18% of women.
About 53% use protection software, such as antivirus and Norton – about 58% of the employed and about 43% of the non-employed, about 60% of the Jews and about 19% of the Arabs, about 71% of those with an academic certificate and about 43% of the unemployed Academic education.

The segmentation of crime victims on the network shows that between the ages of 20 and 44, the rate was about 23%, while among those aged 65 and over, the rate was significantly lower – about 10%. Personally, about 20% were harmed by bank fraud or credit card theft and about 11% of women experienced sexual harassment.

Among Internet users, about 74% believe that in recent years the chances of falling victim to Internet crime have increased. About 31% (about 1.6 million people) were exposed to offensive content on the Internet, including verbal and physical violence or bullying.
