Revealed: This is the emoji you used to come the most this year

In recent years, emojis have become an integral part of our lives, with 92 percent of the world’s population connected to the internet using them. They allow us to express ourselves very quickly, without having to type a lot, and say what we want without words. Their widespread use raises the question – what are the most popular emojis.

The Unicode Consortium, the organization responsible for encoding universal characters for the Internet, including the various emojis, has unveiled the 2021 list, which shows that the most common emoji in the past year was the laugh-out-loud emoji: πŸ˜‚. The data show that the emoji in question, known as “tears of joy”, makes up about five percent of all emoji use. Next on the list is the heart-shaped emoji – ❀️.

It turns out that the use of emoji has not changed much since 2019, the last time this list was published, since even then the two emojis in question were common in the world. In fact, “Tears of Joy” has been the leading emoji in Apple devices since 2017 at least.

Today, there are over 3,600 possible emojis to use, while there are some whose popularity level has risen in the past year, with the πŸŽ‚ jumping 88 places to 25, 🎈 ranked 48th, an increase of 139, and πŸ₯Ί, which was added Just in 2018, it is now the 14th most popular emoji, according to the Unicode consortium.
