WhatsApp works on a new trick to avoid being bothered by strangers: that’s how it will be

WhatsApp Keep working on new features. The messaging application, which has more than 2 billion users globally, is developing a function that allows calls from unknown phone numbers to be silenced through the application. The feature, which is intended to prevent unwanted calls, has been discovered by the specialized site WABetaInfo, it has been seen in the latest beta for Android.

The company has been working on new features focused on privacy for months. And it is that, as WhatsApp itself has recognized on many occasions, also in conversation with ABC, its main objective is to prevent the user from receiving communications from unknown or annoying people. This is precisely the reason why for a long time, among other things, it has allowed Internet users to select who can add them to a group.

The new functionality, which is called ‘Silence unknown calls‘, will incorporate a new option in the Settings that will allow the user to block, with a stroke of the pen, all the calls that he receives through the application and that come from numbers that he does not have stored among his contacts.

It is a optional feature which can be activated or deactivated according to the needs of the users and which specifies that incoming calls will be silenced, although these will be shown in the call list of the application with a notification.

Obviously, the function only allows you to prevent the user from receiving calls through WhatsApp. The stranger can still try to contact you through conventional calls, although the user, in these cases, has other tools to avoid being bothered.

Despite the fact that, for the moment, the functionality only appears in the Android beta, it is foreseeable that, by the time the launch takes place, it will also reach devices with the iOS operating system, that is, the iPhone. At the moment, it is unknown when this will happen. Although it is to be hoped that it will be in the coming months.

WABetaInfo has also found another novelty in version 2.23.5.11 of WhatsApp for Android. Specifically, a new notification that alerts users to the possibility of sharing files up to 2 GB in size through chats.
