Check Point today (Tuesday) released a report that includes an annual summary of cyber attacks that have occurred around the world in the past year. The data show that the average weekly attacks on Israel in 2021 increased by 92 percent, compared to 2020. This is a significantly higher figure compared to the global figure, which stood at 50 percent. This means that the number of average attacks per week in Israel has almost doubled compared to the world average.
The report also shows that the number of attacks on organizations and companies in Israel crossed the world average during 2021, and in the last quarter of the year stood at an all-time record – about 1,100 weekly attacks on companies and organizations in blue and white.

Another figure that appears in the report is the industry sector that experiences the highest average number of attacks each week is the field of education and research – with an average of 3,344 cyber attacks on an organization per week. This is an increase of 107 percent compared to 2020. Next on the list is the field of communications (telecommunications) with an average of 1,775 attacks (an increase of 147 percent) and health with 1,488 attacks (an increase of 121 percent).
Meanwhile, in terms of global data, the number of attacks on organizations and companies worldwide increased by about 50 percent in 2021, averaging more than 900 attacks per week in the last quarter. The most affected sectors were education and research (1,605 attacks per organization per week), government / military (1,136 attacks per organization per week) and communications (telecommunications – 1,079 attacks per organization per week).
The data also shows that the region that experienced the highest number of weekly attacks, per organization, was Asia-Pacific (1353 attacks per organization per week), followed by South America (1,118 attacks per week), Europe (670 attacks per organization per week) and North America (503 attacks per organization per week).
The data was taken from Check Point’s Threat Cloud system, which centralizes information from hundreds of millions of endpoints around the world.
