The new MacBook Air with M2 chip expands its screen to 15.3 inches and reaches 18 hours of autonomy

The new MacBook Air features a new 15.3-inch screen -compared to the 13 of the previous generation- and offers a performance of up to 18 hours of autonomy thanks to its new M2 chip, developed by Apple.

The company has unveiled this and other devices within the framework of the World Developer Conference (WWDC 2023), which took place this Monday and could be seen online.

MacBook Air is a laptop with a high-resolution 15.3-inch Liquid Retina display capable of up to 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colors. According to the technology manufacturer, this model offers twice the resolution and 25 percent more brightness than an equivalent notebook PC.

Weighing 1.5 kg, it is available in different finishes – midnight, star white, space gray and silver – and offers a resolution of up to 6K. At the battery level, it stands out for an autonomy of up to 18 hours.

Its CPU is 8-core with four performance and four efficiency cores, a 10-core GPU for lightning-fast graphics power, and a 16-core Neural Engine. Additionally, the M2 chip provides 100 GB/s of memory bandwidth and supports up to 24 GB of high-speed unified memory.

This laptop also introduces a 1080p FaceTime HD camera and an audio system with six speakers -two of them are treble and the other two are bass- and three microphones, which capture clear sound thanks to the use of advanced beamforming algorithms.

Apple has also commented that MacBook Air works with macOS Sonoma, which will arrive in the fall and introduces new options to customize widgets and screensavers, improvements to play with Game Mode, powerful video call features, among other new features.

This laptop can be reserved from this Monday in the official Apple store and in the App Store. Its price starts at 1,599 euros and, in case of choosing the smallest size (13 inches), it is possible to buy it for 1,299 euros.

In addition to releasing the new M2 chip, the brand also offers these models with an M1 processor. The 13-inch MacBook Air with M1 chip, available in gold, silver and space gray, remains at €1,219.

MAC STUDIO Y MAC PRO

The new Mac Studio desktop works with both the M2 chip and the new M2 Ultra and reaches 193GB of unified memory. Its CPU reaches 24 cores and the GPU, 76 cores.

The M2 Max platform model is 4 times faster than other Intel iMac-based PCs, while the M2 Ultra version multiplies this performance to 6 times faster.

With a memory bandwidth of 800 GB/s, it has a 10Gb Ethernet port, HDMI, SDX and Thunderbolt 4 and also has a WiFi 6E connection, Bluetooth 5.3 and support for playing 8K content. Also, it works with MacOS Ventura.

Mac Pro also offers remarkable performance thanks to the M2 Ultra chip, with a 24-core CPU, twice the memory of the previous model, and SSD storage. Furthermore, it can be configured with a GPU of up to 76 cores.

The new design supports up to 192 GB of unified memory with memory bandwidth of up to 800 GB/s and offers the performance of seven integrated Afterburner cards.

On the other hand, it has six open expansion slots compatible with Gen 4. It also has eight Thunderbolt 4 ports, that is, twice as many as the previous model, with an M1 chip.

Apple has finally clarified that both the new Mac Studio and the Mac Pro can be reserved from this Monday and will be available from June 13.

Regarding its prices, he has said that the Mac Studio is available from 2,429 euros, while Mac Pro can be purchased both in a tower model and for rack mounting, from 8,399 euros and 9,099 euros, respectively.
