The severe floods in central China, which hit three Foxconn main manufacturing plants in the city of Zhengzhou in Henan Province – are responsible for the production of about half of the iPhones, and the world’s largest production center for Apple phones.

Foxconn has announced that it has implemented emergency procedures for flood cases and that no direct damage has been done to factories as a result of the floods. However, water intrusion resulted in power outages and damage to plant production. As mentioned, this is a busy and critical period for the American technology giant, about a month and a half before the announcement of the new devices.

As you may recall, at least 25 people have perished and another seven are defined as missing, in the huge floods in China in recent days, after heavy rains, when according to local forecasters this is the largest amount of precipitation in the last thousand years. About half of the victims were at the subway stations of the provincial capital, Zhengzhou, which were completely flooded. The floods and floods affected 1.24 million residents, with at least 200,000 forced to evacuate their homes.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has instructed his rescue force to give priority to protecting residents’ lives and property and taking significant steps to prevent further flooding although he acknowledged that “efforts have become very complex”.
