Experts on drone explosives: If there were 120 kilos, there would be a crater! The explanation is strange

After parts of the drone that crashed in Zagreb on Thursday were pulled out on Sunday morning, the Minister of Defense Mario Banožić and he said traces of an air bomb had been found in the crater. Informed sources from the Ministry of Defense claim that the drone could carry a bomb weighing up to 120 kilograms, but many military experts are skeptical.

Retired Colonel Damir Galešić explained what kind of air bomb it might be and whether it was at all.

– I don’t know why the air bomb story got through. It is possible for someone to unplanned or intentionally install something that is an explosive device, but most often such Cold War-era aircraft had self-destruct devices. Without the final findings of the investigation, the joint investigation of NATO and the Republic of Croatia, I do not want to comment on this at all. It is a Cold War jet-powered aircraft, very fast, scheduled for reconnaissance, which was to return to the sender and deliver footage from the field to be reconnoitered. Those were the tasks. Whether someone misused that aircraft or not, the investigation must show – Galešić said for Nova TV.

He says an explosion can also happen in the air or by hitting the ground.

– If it happened in the ground, I think the crater would be much bigger. I do not believe. Large pieces of the aircraft were removed. If there was self-destruction, then only a significant part of the aircraft was destroyed in very small quantities. Galešić explained and added that this is not a black box because such aircraft are a navigation device.

– That device won’t show anything. His task is just to take the plane and return it to the user – said Galešić.

Galešić says that there are three possible scenarios about how the aircraft ended up in Croatia. One is that it was wrongly programmed, the other is that there was a malfunction, and the third is that it was intentionally sent to one of the NATO members and that it may have been sent by rebellious Russians in Ukraine.

– We don’t have enough evidence. And our authorities must report as modestly as possible until the investigation is completed. In my opinion, he should not have given statements of this type until the investigation is complete. We had to wait with the reports – said Galešić.

He also says that this is a big failure of NATO.

– It was a threat in the air, in NATO space, for more than 40 minutes, without anyone reacting – said Galešić.

Galešić believes that it would be right for the Hungarians to crash the plane, but also that the question is whether they could have made that assessment themselves or should have consulted with NATO, which means that the Alliance should reconsider its cooperation in air defense.

Military expert Baric: If a 120 kg bomb had exploded, there would be nothing left

Military expert Robert Barić he is skeptical about claims from the Ministry of Defense that there were explosives and that the detonation took place underground.

– First of all, can a 120 kg air bomb be placed in the interior for electronics – these are two cameras – one panoramic, one for front recording and possibly equipment, if there was one. It is still 120 kg of explosives, if it had exploded, I doubt we would have any remains of anything and in my opinion it is an explosion of a system for self-destruction of equipment and collected data and possibly a pyrocartridge that ejects cameras before the aircraft lands – he said Baric for HRT.

– We will see, in theory it is possible, but I’m not sure, added Barić.

Selak: A 120 kg bomb? Well, a crater would form!

Retired military pilot Ivan Selak | he also does not believe that the drone was carrying explosives and that it exploded underground.

Let them be silent, let them not bury themselves anymore and let them agree on who is saying what, because every day it becomes more and more obvious that they have no idea. And let them say clearly and loudly that this was the biggest terrorist threat since the war for Croatia – Selak told us.

He added that an explosion of a bomb up to 120 kg in the ground would create a crater and the spacecraft would take off on its own, they should not dig it up.
