Samsung changes the name of its folding phones due to the Russia – Ukraine war

Since Vladimir Putin decided to invade Ukraine On February 25, the consequences were not long in coming: a cataract of sanctions and of all kinds. The technological Samsung first confirmed that it will stop selling phones in Russia and now will change the name of one of its most important cell phone families.

As published Digital TrendsCiting sources from Sammobile, the South Korean giant decided to change the name of its folding in some Baltic countries. Specifically, it removed the Z mark of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 3.

The reason could be that, since the conflict began, the letter Z became a symbol of the Russian army (although there is no exact theory as to why).

Anti-Russian sentiment in the former Soviet bloc countries is quite high due to their proximity and history with each other. For this reason, Samsung could have chosen to execute this movement.

Just three days after the invasion, the Kremlin-funded state network RT announced on its social media the sale of Z productsincluding t-shirts and sweatshirts, to show support for the Russian troops.

For now, the company has not officially confirmed anything, but on the pages of several countries such as Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, the phones are already renamed. Interestingly, the South Korean firm has not changed the names to the phones in Ukraine.

It remains to be seen whether Samsung will rebrand its foldable devices globally and also in Ukraine.
