From today it is easier to remove our personal data from Google (no, it is not the right to be forgotten)

There are cases in which our email address, telephone number, login credentials, document details, medical data (our personal data) can end up on the net and be indexed by search engines (in practice by Google) by fraud or error. This is sensitive data, which if manipulated and in the wrong hands they can have serious consequences (think of practices like stalking or identity theft).

Therefore Google has made available to its users a feature that expands the possibility of requesting de-indexing of these data. It expands because Mountain View has already made available to users tools to limit the information it collects as a company or to allow children and young people to request the removal of their photos from Google’s image search results.

In summary it means that no one will be able to find the data in question through targeted searches on the search engine. Google intends to help the victims of the so-called doxxing, those practices in which information about a person is published online without their consent, often with harmful intentions.

From this set data available on institutional sites are excluded or official sources, where it is assumed that the publication may have some legitimacy (news right).

“When we receive requests for removal – he explains – we will evaluate all the contents of the web page to make sure not to limit the availability of other widely useful information, for example in news articles. We will also evaluate whether the content appears as part of the public record on government sites or official sources. In these cases, we will not carry out removals ยป.

How to request de-indexing

For Google this is an effort to protect the privacy of users, cleaning its index of information from those details that may prove deleterious to individuals. For people it is an additional self-protection tool, to be exploited to make online research less dangerous for themselves and for their safety (personal and online). A special support page is available for those who may need to carry out requests of this type.
