Brands like Samsung are bringing AI to the mid-range. Specifically, models like the Galaxy A55, A54, A35, A34, and the Galaxy Tab S9 FE and S9 FE+ tablets now include smart features that were previously exclusive to the Galaxy S24 series.
However, the South Korean brand is not the only one with this vision. Oppo has also equipped its new Reno 12 series with artificial intelligence functions. These advances represent a significant step in the accessibility of AI.
But how is the user experience changing with the arrival of artificial intelligence in the mid-range? To understand this, we analyse Oppo’s strategy, which is integrating AI functions into its most accessible devices, with the aim of democratising this technology.
We spoke with Singerala Zhou, Sales Director of Oppo Peru, to learn more about this vision that seeks to bring artificial intelligence to a greater number of users.
– What does it mean to democratize artificial intelligence in cell phones?
In recent months we have seen how different smartphone companies have decided to jump on the bandwagon of artificial intelligence with different products and functions. But, for users, accessing this type of technology often means investing in a high-end device.
Democratising AI on mobile phones refers to making AI technologies widely accessible and usable to the general population through mobile devices. This process involves integrating AI capabilities into smartphones and making them available to a broad audience, regardless of their technical experience or socioeconomic status.
– Why is it essential?
Making AI accessible on mobile phones can empower people by providing powerful tools for communication, learning, health monitoring, productivity, and more. Help close the digital divideensuring that people from all walks of life can benefit from technological advances.

– How does Oppo see the evolution of AI in mobile devices in the coming years?
The AI revolution in mobile devices like smartphones will significantly improve the user experience and open up new possibilities and applications in everyday use. We are focused on bringing our generative AI to our core product line, benefiting millions of users around the world.
– Since when has Oppo integrated AI into its devices?
AI has been integrated into many different aspects over the past few years. But our journey with generative AI is not just now, but since 2020, when we started exploring the training and application of language models, our first internal model, “OBERT”.
It is important to note that we are the first smartphone company to implement a 7 billion parameter LLM directly on a device. Our AI Center located in China marks a significant effort to bring AI technology to all segments of our products, improving the user experience and revolutionizing the mobile phone industry. Thus, we have developed our own language model, AndesGPTwhich focuses on improving dialogue, personalization and collaboration between the cloud and the device.

– What specific areas of Oppo devices use AI?
For example, in the Reno 11 series we have the Portrait Expert Engineits AI super-resolution portrait algorithm improves facial clarity and sharpness.
Our function also stands out AI Eraser which is available on the Reno 11 and Reno 11F. If, for example, you take a photo but a person appears unexpectedly, no problem, you can delete it. The best thing of all is that, thanks to AI, it will recognize what was behind it and reconstruct the photo, so that it will look like that person was never there.
Another key area is our technology LinkBoostwhich significantly improves connectivity by optimizing network usage and improves signal in areas with poor coverage. This technology allows you to maintain AI-based network selection to maintain a stable and fast connection even in difficult environments such as basements or elevators.
In addition, there is the battery and charging optimization. AI manages energy consumption by adapting to the user’s habits, thereby prolonging battery life. Smart night charging, for example, adjusts the charging process to protect the battery in the long term.
– What AI features will be coming to OPPO phones in Peru?
Some of the features I mentioned will be coming in our upcoming releases that we have planned for this year.
– Why is OPPO betting on introducing AI functions in the mid-range in the Peruvian market?
We do this because we strongly believe in the democratization of technology. We want the most advanced innovations to be accessible to all, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
Our goal is to enable more people to benefit from the advantages of AI in their daily lives, improving their mobile experience with features that were previously only available on high-end devices. This is leading us to be the only brand on the market to incorporate AI from the mid-range.
