The EU supports local government projects in Serbia with more than 5.5m euros.
The European Union (EU) will support 34 local infrastructure projects in the regions of Šumadija and western Serbia and southern and eastern Serbia through the EU PRO Plus program, which include the renovation and reconstruction of educational, health and social care institutions, sports and cultural facilities, as well as services and public administration buildings, it was announced today.In this way, the EU, in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration, will support the improvement of the quality of life of people with more than 5.5 million euros, and special attention will be paid to vulnerable groups, as well as recovery from the effects of kovid 19.

“By supporting the implementation of these local infrastructure projects, the European Union directly contributes to a better life of the population in Serbia through the reconstruction of public facilities that will not only improve their functionality and services to the population but will also improve energy efficiency, accessibility and environmental protection and urban mobility. “, said the head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia, Ambassador Emanuela Giofre.

Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimović said that sustainable territorial development is an important strategic topic in the whole of Europe and that Serbia shares that goal with European integration. As Joksimović emphasized, through harmonization with EU policies, Serbia can best contribute to reducing the unequal development of its territory, as well as creating opportunities for a better life and work for all who want to stay in their local communities.

“These projects, which will be implemented with the support of the European Union within the EU PRO Plus program, are a tangible contribution to this goal, and above all to creating equal conditions for education and growing up of children, improving the quality and accessibility of utilities, health and social services,” she concluded. Joksimović pointed out that local self-governments competed with priority projects that will improve life in those areas.

The public call, which was open from December 3, 2021 to January 31, 2022, received a total of 75 project proposals, and one of the necessary conditions for applying was the existence of a building permit and financial participation of at least 15 percent of the project value. .

Also, local governments had the right to apply for two projects, provided that one or both are in the field of health and / or social protection, and 33 local governments that approved projects will participate in the implementation with 2,742,579 million euros, so the total the budget of all projects is estimated at 8,272,532 million euros.

The activities of the EU PRO Plus program, which contributes to a more balanced socio-economic development of Serbia, are supported by the European Union with 40 million euros, the implementation of the Program is led by the Ministry of European Integration.
