Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, in an interview with the Belarusian TV channel ONT, said that Russia is ready for negotiations with Ukraine, the initiative to freeze them comes from Kyiv.
For our part, we are ready to continue the dialogue. But I will emphasize once again: the ball for the continuation of peace negotiations is on the Ukrainian side. Freezing the talks is entirely Ukraine’s initiative,” Medinsky was quoted as saying by TASS.
Medinsky also said that Russia is not against holding negotiations at the level of presidents. At the same time, he added: “The only question is that in order to hold a summit meeting between the presidents, serious preparations are needed.” It follows from his explanations that all documents must be ready before the meeting so that the presidents can sign them.
Medinsky also said that a month ago, Russia handed over to the Ukrainian side a draft treaty, “in which a number of fundamental positions had already been agreed upon.” Russia hoped to move further, but according to Medinsky, “since then, there has been no desire to continue the dialogue on the part of Ukraine.”
