Belgian tourist follows a monkey he wants to photograph and gets lost for hours in the Mexican jungle

A 21-year-old Belgian on holiday in Mexico got lost after following a monkey through the jungle. Local media write this. When his traveling companions noticed his absence, they contacted emergency services who were able to locate him several hours later.

You will not immediately come across the Mexican howler monkey in Belgium. The species occurs in the tropical forests of Mexico and Central America, from Belize to Guatemala. When a Belgian tourist visited the Lacandona jungle around Mexico and saw a Mexican howler monkey, he couldn’t help but follow it until he took the perfect photo of it.

The 21-year-old young man followed the monkey through the jungle. He left the path and followed the howler monkey through the dense vegetation. When he tried to return to the path, he couldn’t find his way back.

When his traveling companions noticed his absence about an hour later, they decided to inform civil defense of the situation. The lost man had already called the emergency number and was able to report his location. A search was immediately launched. And luckily it ended well.

He was lost in the Mexican jungle for hours. According to the local news site Now Tabasco News he suffered “minor injuries” and the young man showed signs of mild dehydration. The 21-year-old Belgian and his traveling companions continued their journey through the jungle and then headed to the city of Villahermosa.
