Holocaust denier known as ‘Nazi grandmother’ dies aged 96

In Germany, Ursula Havenbeck, a well-known Holocaust denier who claimed that Auschwitz was “just a labor camp, no one was gassed,” has died at the age of 96.

Havenbeck demanded that a German court prove that the Nazis committed mass murder and declared on television that the Holocaust was “the biggest and most persistent lie in history.”

She spent years in prison for lying about the Holocaust and was called a “Nazi grandmother” by the German media.

“She is hopeless,” Judge Bjorn Jonsson said of her in 2015. He added that it was “unfortunate that this woman, who is still so active despite her age, uses her energy to spread such hair-raising nonsense.”

Ursula Haverbeck was the wife of Werner Georg Haverbeck, a former Nazi officer who was almost two decades older than her. She lived in her husband’s shadow until his death in 1999, after which she began publishing her works glorifying him and all Nazis.
