Opposition leader María Corina Machado made a publication on her profile on the social network X this Thursday (9) to reassure her supporters, saying that she was already taking refuge in a safe place and that she remains determined to fight for freedom in Venezuela.
“Venezuelan, today the Bravo People showed how to overcome fear! I have never felt so proud to be Venezuelan. Thank you, thank you to all the citizens who took to the streets to claim our victory on July 28th and demand it! My heart goes out to the Venezuelan who was shot when the regime’s repressive forces detained me. Now I’m in a safe place and with more determination than ever to follow alongside you until the end! Tomorrow I will communicate with you what happened today and what is to come. Venezuela will be free! glory to the brave people!”, wrote the opponent.
María Corina was violently intercepted and detained by Chavista forces this Thursday as she left a protest in Caracas against Maduro’s dictatorship. Hours later, opponents said she had been released, but not before being forced to record videos claiming she was “fine.”
The arrest of the opposition leader was rejected by Italy, Panama, Argentina, American congressmen and Spain. US President-elect Donald Trump also spoke out after the incident, saying that María Corina was a freedom fighter.
