Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Muhammad Mustafa said that the PA should govern the Gaza Strip after the end of hostilities. “Any other solution that separates the sector from the West Bank prevents the creation of a Palestinian state,” he said.
“While we await a ceasefire, it must be emphasized that only the legitimate Palestinian leadership, the Government of the State of Palestine, can be accepted as the governing authority for Gaza,” he said.
The statement was made in Oslo at the third international conference in support of the two-state principle, which was attended by representatives of 80 countries and international organizations.
It should be noted that the issue of the post-war structure of the sector remains unresolved. The Israeli leadership claims that Hamas’s continued power is unacceptable to it. However, after 15 months of war, it remains unclear what answer official Jerusalem has to this question.
