On February 4, the self-proclaimed president of Syria Ahmad Ash Sharaa arrives in Turkey. Türkiye will become the second country that he will visit after the overthrow of Bashar al -Assad, the first was Saudi Arabia.
The ASh-Sharaa, the Hayyat Tahrir al-Sham group, came to power in Syria with the support of Turkey. As expected, it is this country that will become the main beneficiary of the Syrian regime.
According to the official Turkish message during the negotiations of ASh-Sharaa with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, joint steps to restore Syria, ensuring its stability and security.
At the same time, Reuters reports that among the issues discussed there will be the creation of Turkish air base in the Syrian territory. This will become part of the agreement on bilateral defense cooperation, which includes Turkey’s participation in the preparation of the new Syrian army.
On February 2, the pro-government Turkish newspaper Türkiye wrote that Türkiye can build two military bases in Syria, posting about 50 F-16 fighters. The publication noted that the new Syrian authorities need the support of Turkey to combat drug trafficking, Hizballa and Israel.
