Renewable protest: Pro-Palestinians have taken over a building at the University of Columbia

Dozens of protesters conducted a protest meeting (sitting) in the Milban Board of College in New York, near the office of the institution’s dicky, demanding the management decision to expel two college students.

The protest, which began yesterday (Wednesday), took place following the deportation of two students who interfered with a lesson on “the history of modern Israel” last January. Protesters require not only the cancellation of the decision, but also to grant pardon for all students who were punished for their support for Palestinians.

According to Bernard spokeswoman’s announcement, the management placed Dadeline protesters for 9:30 pm, before weighing “additional steps” to evacuate the protest. Another announcement by Robin Levin, a Barneard President for Strategic Communication, states that one of the college employees was physically attacked by protesters and needed medical treatment at the hospital.

College dynama, Leslie Ginja, expressed willingness to meet with only three representatives – students from Baranard, without masks or face covers, and in the presence of a security officer. She has set additional conditions for the meeting, including a ban on photography and advertising on social networks, as well as a demand that the representatives present student certificates.

The protesters rejected the demand for a private meeting and insisted that any negotiations would be publicly conducted. They demanded that a lawyer be attended by each student at the meeting, and that no ID would be examined. They also set a pre -pardon condition for all students involved in the protest, including representatives of the negotiations.

The University of Columbia, which is associated with College Branard, has made a formal statement that it is not responsible for enforcement of security at Barneard’s campus. The statement states that “disruption of academic activities is not acceptable behavior.”

At the same time, the American House of Education Committee has released a statement on the X network, which expressed support for the Barneard decision to expel the students. “The actions have implications,” the post reads. “Barneard was right when he decided to deport students who interrupted the lesson and distributed leaflets that called the deaths of Jews.”

During the protest, students paste signs on Ginj’s office door, including the “Hind” caption – reference to Hind Reggiev, a six -year -old Palestinian girl who was killed in Gaza in January 2024. Earlier this year, protesters at the University of Columbia changed the name of one of the buildings to “Hind Hind” as a sign.

Currently, protesters continue to demand the cancellation of suspension, full pardon for all students who are punished for their support for Palestinians, having a public meeting with the management of the institution’s disciplinary policy.

In a statement published in the Instagram account of the Columbia University Apartheid Divest, it states: “Today we are here to demand that the Dicky Greenja will make the appeals of the deported students and eliminate the decision immediately.”

So far, more than 100,000 people have signed a petition calling on the management of Barneard to make the decision.
