The CPJ condemns the death of a Ukrainian journalist in a Russian attack with drones in the kyiv region

The Committee for the Protection of Journalists (CPJ) has sentenced on Wednesday the death of the Ukrainian journalist Tatiana Kulik, editor head of the multimedia section of the UKRinform news agency, in an attack executed by Russia’s army against the town of Buchanski, located in the kyiv region.

“The Russian drone attack that killed the Ukrainian journalist Tatiana Kulik, just a few days after three years of the Russian -scale Invasion of Ukraine, is a tragic reminder of the risks faced every day the journalists who live and work in the country,” said the director of CPJ programs, Carlos Martínez de la Serna.

During the attack in the early hours of Wednesday, a drone hit Kulik’s home, killing her and her husband, Pablo Ivanchov, surgeon and university professor of Medicine, as reported by the news agency for which the Ukrainian reporter worked.

The general director of Ukrinform, Sergéi Cherevati, said that Kulik “was a great journalist”, who made programs on the Ukrainian conflict and army. “She will always remain in our hearts and in our memory. We will avenge our partner with materials that expose the war crimes of the aggressor,” he said.

The UN, who has transferred its condolences to the loved ones of the deceased, has denounced that this attack is “another example of the price that journalists pay” by covering the Ukraine conflict, as well as other conflicts around the world.

The spokesman for the UN General Secretariat, Stéphane Dujarric, has asserted in a press conference that “these matters are taken very seriously.” “We condemn every death of a journalist,” he added.
