San Bernardo | Granada explosion in the center of Bogotá leaves three dead and nine injured

“Tonight, a new explosive artifact was launched against an agglomeration of people on 3rd Street with Carrera 10, unfortunately, 3 dead and, at least, 9 injured,” said Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, in an X post on Wednesday shortly before midnight (05h00 GMT).

The explosion, registered in the neighborhood of San Bernardo was caused by a granada General Giovanni Cristancho, commander of the Bogotá Police, confirmed in media statements near the scene.

He attack responds to “a confrontation that exists between two local criminal groups” that dispute the area known as “Los Venecos” and “Los Costaños”added the general.

This central neighborhood of the capital, which is still known for being a traditional furniture manufacturers, has become in recent years a point of Micro -trafficking and drug use in which massive crowds of street inhabitants and addicts are concentrated.

For Mayor Galán, who seeks the “recovery” of the sector, the detonation is a “reaction of criminal gangs that seek to survive the siege” of the police, which he requested “intensifying the pressure on the bands that operate there (…) to achieve the capture of their leaders”.

Just three weeks ago, a street inhabitant died and seven other people were injured by another explosion of Granada in the same neighborhood.
