The United States are no longer the number one enemy for Russia

After the disastrous meeting between the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the American one Donald Trump in the White House, on February 28, on social media in Russia it started to circulate insistently a photomontage which until a few months ago would have been unthinkable. You can see one of the most representative monuments of the USSR, ‘the worker and the Kolchoziana’, in which, however, the iconic peasant of the kolchoz with sickle in his hand is replaced by what was the symbol par excellence of the enemy: The statue of freedom.

In a few weeks, the narration of Russian official propaganda on the United States has radically changed. If before they were the enemy who wanted to destroy the federation using the launch ramp Ukraine and Europe and with which, for this reason, Moscow has embarked on a “holy war”, today the USA with Trump are, if not an ally, at least one of the countries with which a number of values are shared.

When Putin publicly commented on the proposal of temporary respite in Ukraine, he thanked the American president by comparing his efforts for peace to what other world leaders are doing such as Chinese Xi Jinping and the Indian Narendra Modi. The role of the enemy who tries to contain Russia has passed to the United Kingdom, three Russian officials told Reuters, one of which he observed that London is “fomenting chaos and war” in Ukraine.

The Russian authorities, writes Moscow Times, seem irritated by the efforts of the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, to guarantee European support for Ukraine, at a time when the new American administration manifests reluctance. Starmer set up one ‘Coalition of willing‘of countries willing to ally to continue to provide military aid to Kiev and protect it from further Russian aggressions in case of a peace agreement, also through the sending of troops. A hypothesis against which the Kremlin was launched strongly, warning that in this way a “direct comparison” with Moscow would open.

Starmer and his national security councilor Jonathan Powell They also made great efforts to reconcile Kiev with Washington and to negotiate a 30 -day fire with the aim of putting Moscow on the corner. Foreign Minister, Serghei Lavrovattacked Starmer claiming that the escalation wants. For Russian intelligence abroad (SVR), London considers a threat to its interests the way in which dialogue between the United States and Russia proceeds. On Monday, then, the secret services (FSB) accused of espionage and expelled two British citizens stationed at the Embassy in Moscow. “It is clear that Russia is trying to push the British embassy towards closure,” said Foreign Office in a note.
