Russian captain of cargo ship who bumped into pre -trial detention against oil tanker

The Russian captain of the cargo ship Solong, which collided in the North Sea on Monday with the oil tanker Stena Immaculate, was placed in pre -trial detention by a British judge on Saturday.

The 59-year-old Vladimir Motine from St. Petersburg was accused of manslaughter the day before due to gross negligence. On Saturday morning he appeared before the court in Hull in northeastern England.

There was no request for a release on bail and the man was placed in pre -trial detention. He also did not have to argue guilty or innocent. The next session will take place on April 14 in London.

The collision happened on Monday before the English North Sea coast, near the mouth of the Humber River. The Solong collided with the Stena Immaculate, on which both ships caught fire. The latter transported nearly 35 million liters of kerosene for the US Army, part of which was leaked in the North Sea.

36 crew members could be saved. A crew member was missing and probably died. According to the Public Prosecution Service, this is a 38-year-old Filipin.
