Lithuania and the European Commission agreed on the principles of transit to Kaliningrad

National Security Adviser to the President of Lithuania, Keistutis Budrys, announced the achievement of fundamental agreements with the European Commission on the issue of the transit of goods to the Kaliningrad region. The high-ranking official stressed that the sanctions will not be lifted.

“Lithuania is seeking and will continue to seek the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions and will strictly comply with them, consulting with the European Union in case of disputes and inconsistencies,” the State Radio and Television of Lithuania quotes Budrys.

He said that consultations with the EU on this issue were launched back in April. The adviser to the head of state stressed that Lithuania is not going to impose a blockade of the Kaliningrad region, and both people and goods that are not subject to sanctions can get there without hindrance.

“Lithuania fulfills its obligations, but it also enjoys its sovereign rights – we control goods and passenger traffic,” he said.
