Turkish customs, at the request of Kyiv, detained the cargo ship Zhibek Zholy, sailing under the Russian flag, on board of which, according to the Ukrainian side, there is grain stolen from Ukraine, BBC News Russian Service reports.
Ukrainian Ambassador to Turkey Vasily Bodnar stated this on the air of Ukrainian television.
On July 4, a court session is to be held, where a decision will be made on the future fate of the vessel.
On July 2, Reuters reported that the Ukrainian side had asked Turkey to detain and arrest the cargo ship Zhibek Zholy, which is carrying grain from Russian-occupied Berdyansk.
Judging by the data of the Marine Traffic service, the cargo ship Zhibek Zholy has been anchored near the Turkish port of Karasu since July 1.
A representative of the Turkish customs confirmed to RIA Novosti the detention of the Russian vessel. “The ship is here, but no clarity and no concrete decisions have been made. There was a request, an investigation is underway. That’s all I can tell you now,” said the source of the agency, who wished to remain anonymous.
