Tikhanovskaya: “Belarus participation in the Ukrainian war is almost impossible”

“Participation of Belarus in the Ukrainian war is almost impossible,” Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, the exiled leader of the Belarusian opposition, Alexander Lukashenko’s main rival in the 2020 presidential elections, expressed this opinion at a press conference in Warsaw today.

“Actually, I doubt that the Belarusian military will participate in the invasion of Ukraine. Of course, I cannot guarantee anything, but according to intelligence and expert assessments, it is almost impossible. The Belarusian army is in a state of extreme demoralization. They don’t want to fight against friendly people like Ukrainians, they don’t want to die for Lukashenko and Putin,” Tikhanovskaya said.

Last week, Alexander Lukashenko announced that the country’s army will be involved in the war against Ukraine only in case of a direct attack or strikes against Belarus from the territory of the neighboring state. According to the data of the General Staff of Ukraine, it has been several months since the accumulation of units of the Belarusian army along the border with Ukraine.
