More than 19,000 prisoners, including former militants of the Islamic State, were released in Iraq as part of a mass amnesty designed to solve the problem of overpopulation in prisons. A moratorium on execution is also introduced.
The corresponding law was adopted in January. He was supported by the Sunni parliamentarians, who noted that the laws in Iraq to combat extremism were directed, first of all, against the Sunni community.
The amnesty law also allows former IS militants to demand re -consideration of the case if their testimony was given under pressure. At the same time, the amnesty does not apply to those who were found guilty of murders.
