The United States welcomed the Declaration of the Leaders of the European Union adopted today at the summit of the EU and the Western Balkans in Slovenia, and pointed out the importance of continuing the process of enlargement of that bloc of countries.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, northern Macedonia and Serbia “continue to demonstrate a commitment to reform.”
“It is crucial that the doors of the European Union remain open for them,” Price said on Twitter.
EU leaders, with the consent of leaders from the Western Balkans, today in Brdo near Kranj adopted a Declaration reaffirming the Union’s commitment to the enlargement process and announcing the intensification of joint engagement for the overall transformation of the region.
The declaration does not mention deadlines or dates regarding the continuation of the enlargement process.
