The British government has turned green for an investment of 14 billion pounds (16.5 billion euros) in the new SizeWell C.
The new nuclear power plant on the British east coast has been on the drawing table for more than ten years. The planned investment comes on top of previously promised billions. The total cost could amount to more than 40 billion pounds.
The United Kingdom plans to deploy a lot on nuclear energy, in combination with wind farms at sea. But difficult permit procedures and increasing costs make it difficult to plan.
SizeWell C will be good for 3.2 Gigawatts and generate sufficient electricity for 6 million households. It will be a copy of Hinkley Point C, another nuclear reactor that the British build and which has been delayed for years.
